Your tooth and the surrounding gum may be slightly sensitive for a few days. This is normal and should not worry you. Please avoid chewing on the side of the treated tooth until the treatment is complete. You may continue your normal oral care routine as usual. If you experience pain, take the prescribed painkillers. Please be aware of any allergic reactions, or let us know if you have allergies to any specific ingredients.
Attention: It is advised to avoid alcoholic beverages while taking medication.
If the discomfort increases or if swelling of the surrounding gum tissue of the treated tooth occurs, please contact us immediately.
Before the root canal treatment
The treatment will be performed under local anesthesia.
Take all your medications as usual. Make sure to eat enough on the day of the treatment. If you have been prescribed antibiotics, please take them to help combat any potential infections and inflammatory reactions associated with the treatment.
After the root canal treatment
The root canal is now permanently sealed. For long-term treatment success, a permanent closure of the tooth is essential. This closure is necessary to prevent the tooth from fracturing, breaking, or becoming reinfected by cavity-causing bacteria. For this reason, please contact your dentist for further medical care and follow-up treatment.
To assess the treatment success, please schedule a follow-up appointment with us.
A good and high-quality restoration (e.g., crown, inlay, or onlay) should be provided within two weeks. This is important to achieve long-term success.
Under these conditions, a root-treated tooth can achieve the same lifespan as an untreated tooth and is comparable to dental implants.
A natural tooth is and remains a natural tooth, and is therefore preferable to all other solutions.
However, it must also be said: Not all teeth are suitable for a root canal treatment.
