»Endo« kommt aus dem Griechischen bedeutet »drinnen, innerhalb« (ένδον) und »dontie« steht für Zahn (οδούς bzw. οδών). Endodontie ist also die Behandlung im Inneren des Zahnes.

It is the prevention or elimination of apical periodontitis (the body's defense response in bone tissue), or more specifically, periradicular periodontitis. In other words:

Endodontics is a specialty of dentistry that focuses on the treatment of the root canal and the surrounding tissue.

The goal is the prevention and treatment of inflammations of the tooth socket, which can result from an infection of the root canal (the inner part of the tooth).

A healthy tooth does not have bacteria inside, which is why there are no inflammatory reactions.

However, if the tooth's inner space is infected and the tissue (nerve) is dead (necrotic), the inflamed tissue and bacteria must be removed to prevent the body's defense reaction (synonyms: chronic apical periodontitis, focus, pus).

Only if this is successfully achieved in the long term can it be considered a success.

That is an endodontic treatment.

X-rays are a "must" during an endodontic treatment. To reduce radiation exposure, we use digital X-rays. The radiation exposure is 90% lower than with conventional X-ray machines.

All instruments are sterilized after use or are single-use instruments.
